Saturday Spotlight: Alison Shimoda, LPC

Who I Work With

I work primarily with individuals who are navigating:

  • Major life transitions, Grief, Identity Exploration, Burnout, Compassion Fatigue, and Interpersonal Dynamics.

  • I work with adults (18+) who are either entering therapy for the very first time or individuals who are looking to reengage in therapy after a hiatus. Over the past 4 years, I have worked alongside clients coming from various backgrounds, professions, and life experiences. No two individuals have the same experiences, and as such, I honor the complexity and nuance of each individual I work with. I have specific experience working with clients who identify as neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+.

I have specialized training and experience in:

  • I identify as an integrative therapist, meaning I draw from a variety of theoretical lenses to best meet clients where they are and support their personalized goals. In my approach, I often weave Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Humanistic, and Existential lenses into my sessions.

My goal is to help clients feel understood, respected, and supported—especially when they’ve felt unseen or misunderstood in the past.

My Approach to Therapy

My therapeutic approach is best described as:

  • Grounded, collaborative, and supportive. My work is rooted in trauma-informed care to emphasize trust, safety, and empowerment throughout the therapeutic relationship.

In our work together, I focus on:

  • Exploring your personal values, goals, and beliefs. I aim to create a collaborative and thoughtful space where you can honor who you are while also challenging yourself to move forward in your personal goals.

I believe therapy works best when you feel seen, heard, and respected.

“Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren’t always comfortable, but they're never weakness." — Brené Brown

What It’s Like to Work With Me

In our sessions, you can expect:

  • A safe space where I honor your identity and vulnerability. You will never be pressured to talk about anything before you’re ready, and I respect that individuals have varying capacities throughout the span of therapy. Healing, growth, and change are not always linear. I will work alongside you to develop insight, self-compassion, and tools to support your personal journey.

Clients often describe sessions with me as warm, validating, and reflective.

What I Value Most in the Therapy Space

I deeply value:

  • Authenticity, cultural humility, and respect for your lived experiences. I recognize your story is layered, and it often takes time to get to the core. I will listen deeply and carefully to support you in your goals.

"We don't heal in isolation; we heal in connection." - Esther Perel

A Little More About Me

Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy:

  • Reading a good book (I read 83 books in 2025), traveling back to the East Coast when I can (Maryland was my home until I moved to Colorado in 2021), and spending time with my cat, Juniper.

These parts of me shape how I show up as a therapist because I recognize we are both humans in the therapeutic space. I honor that we each hold multitudes, and I strive to develop a therapeutic space where you feel truly seen, heard, and supported.
